Communication is the Key
▪️We are living in the digital age. It's true in many aspects including the way a person communicates.
▪️In the ancient times, there was only one way of communication i.e One on One approach. People used to meet others and express themselves. This was followed by Post i.e. sending letters, which was prevalent among the medieval times. Telegram became the first text based messaging platform. The invention of Telephone greatly affected the field of communication. It was initially wired which later became wireless.
▪️The millennials were acquainted with both wired and wireless communication devices. Internet and social networking were introduced later with the premise of effective communication between distant people and providing a platform to interact with people across the world.
▪️People started spending more time in these social platforms and gradually lost the confidence to communicate with a person face to face. Many of us might have had awkward silences and/or embarrassing experiences when we met our relatives or friends.
▪️People are falling in love and/or breaking up via texts. People are expressing their state of mind via statuses/stories. Most of the times, it's a cryptic message to a person.
▪️The latest trend now-a-days is communicating via short form of content. We have stopped even sending messages to our Circle of friends/family. Rather, We send them reels or shorts with funny/useful content. There are many people who even justify this, saying that it is his/her's way of expressing their feelings or affirming your importance in their life.
▪️As a result of this ultra modernisation, there is decreased verbal communication with an actual person. People have a lot of friends/followers in social media but no actual friend to speak their hearts out. This has created a society where most of the people are sad, have no person to share their feelings, spend time in social media with the urge to interact but end up with negative feelings within themselves as everyone's life is perfect in social media.
▪️It's important to understand all of this because this is one of the reason for increasing amount of mental health issues in millennials and Gen Z. It's time to get back to the traditional way of communication.
▪️Couples need to communicate better for a long and healthy relationship. A lot of differences arise between them because one partner expects the other to understand without even saying it. That's not practical, especially in the initial stages of relationship. The more we communicate, the better we understand our partners. Only then, can one become a better half to the other.
"So the next time you want to convey birthday wishes to a family member or friend, Call them up instead of messaging them or liking their story. Get in touch with your loved ones or friends with whom you haven't spoken in a while."
