Ksheerabdi Dwadasi
Today is Ksheerabdi Dwadasi or Yogeeshwara Dwadasi. This falls on the 12th day of month of Kartika. Lord Vishnu goes into yogic sleep on Ashada Ekadasi for a period of 4 months. It is said that during this period, there will be flooding of the entire world (Annual pralaya) following which the world renews itself. Lord Vishnu wakes up on Prabodhini Ekadasi which falls on the 11th day of month of Kartika (i.e. 23rd Nov.2023.)
It is said that Goddess Lakshmi came out of Samudra Manthan which was accepted by Lord Vishnu. Tears of happiness came from Lord Vishnu's eyes which fell on the earth giving rise to Tulsi. Thus, Lord Vishnu ends his 4 month sleep, marries Goddess Lakshmi ,kick starting the marriage season in our country.
People celebrate this festival by observing a fast on Prabodhini Ekadasi which ends on the morning of the next day. On the evening of Ksheerabdi Dwadasi, Tulsi and Amla are worshipped as form of Goddess Lakshmi & Lord Vishnu respectively. An Earthen lamp dipped in Cow ghee or Sesame oil is lit and Puja is done. After this day, the marriage season kick starts which continues
Lighting a Diya on this day is considered very auspicious and believed to eradicate all the sins committed by a person.
Tulsi has many scientifically proven medicinal values. It is one of the few plants which releases oxygen both during the day and night. In the yogic sense, Tulsi is said to activate The Third Eye Chakra (penultimate one.)
Amla is believed to be the first tree on earth. Giving Pind Pradhan under an amla tree is believed to be very auspicious. Amla is rich in Vitamin C and enhances immunity.
